Sarah Buck

Growing up with her father on active Air Force duty, Sarah Buck never had a permanent place to call home. So, when she began asking persistently for violin lessons at just two years old, her parents thought it was just another temporary phase. It wasn’t. Sarah finally found her teacher several years later when her family moved to Japan. Sarah’s grandmother had learned to play violin during the Great Depression, trading light housework for music lessons from a nun. The most difficult piece Sarah’s grandmother ever learned to play was Humoresque by Dvorak, so it was a huge personal milestone for Sarah to finally learn the piece herself, performing it at her final recital for her bachelor’s degree. She went on to earn her Master of Music in Violin Performance at the Chicago College of Performing Arts.

Today, Sarah regularly plays with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic and the Symphony of the Lakes. She ended her 2024 performance year at the Blue Gate Theater playing alongside the great Dionne Warwick. At home, Sarah has cultivated quite the musical household. Her husband plays saxophone, and her toddler loves treating everything like a drum set. Sarah is also an avid music historian and loves helping students understand the context of a given piece, shaping how they approach it musically.
