Miguel Burney
Immediately after graduating from South Side High School, Miguel Burney took a chance on his musical dream, moving to New York City for an opportunity to further his jazz guitar knowledge. He got plugged in right away, taking private lessons, joining weekly jam sessions, and learning musicianship from some of the best players the city has to offer. Miguel, as a first-generation musician, says he’s always eager to pass on what he’s learned. After leaving New York, Miguel taught in Barbados as well as back here in Fort Wayne. He says he loves music because he knows it’s impossible to learn everything there is to know about it. There’s always something new to discover. Miguel continues to take guitar and theory lessons to this day from some of the world’s greatest musicians, finding further inspiration from guitarists Guthrie Govan, George Benson, Joe Pass, and Ted Greene to name a few. He also loves to perform, featuring regularly at the Club Room at the Clyde and many south side churches.
