The Signature Keys of Jazz

In this course, you will develop the key skills required to play jazz in a serious way. The focus will be on developing your ear, knowledge/understanding of jazz theory and vocabulary, as well as the direct application of these core concepts to your playing. Ages 13 and up. open to all instruments (including vocals). ability to read music well enough to understand notated concepts.

Topics will include:

• rhythm and subdivision
• ear training
• transcription
• melodic and harmonic dictation
• vocabulary, melodic lines and chord voicings typical to jazz
